Ohene is built on a simple belief. Your memories are yours. This policy explains, plainly, what stays on your device, the little that can leave it, what rights you have wherever you live, and everything we never touch.

The short version

Ohene is local-first. Your writing, voice notes, photos, files, and the reading Sankofa makes of them all live on your iPhone. There is no account to create and no Ohene server holding your inner life. We do not track you as a person, we do not build a profile of you, and we never sell or share your data. The only things that ever leave your device are the two you will read about below, and one of them only if you choose to subscribe.

What stays on your device

Once Ohene is installed, the following never leaves your iPhone:

• Everything you write, speak, photograph, or attach.
• The reflections, connections, wisdom classifications, and search that Sankofa performs. This intelligence runs on-device.
• What Sankofa has learned about you, and the constellation of your memories.

The app works the same offline as on. If you never subscribe, the content of what you write never leaves your phone.

The one thing that can leave your device

If you subscribe to Ohene Pro, one feature reaches beyond your phone: the weekly deeper reading that composes your Sunday letter and connects memories across months.

Once a week, a small set of excerpts from your recent writing is sent, over an encrypted connection, to a third-party artificial-intelligence provider (Anthropic) for the sole purpose of composing that reading. This text is processed transiently. It is not stored by us, it is not retained by the provider beyond fulfilling the request, and it is never used to train any model. If you do not subscribe, this never happens.

Anonymous analytics

To know whether Ohene actually works — for example, how many people reach a meaningful milestone, or begin a subscription — we use privacy-first, aggregate analytics through TelemetryDeck. These record anonymous events, such as "a milestone was reached" or "a subscription began." They never include the content of your memories, never an identifier we assign to you, and nothing that could single you out. The data is aggregate only, cannot be tied back to you, is never sold or shared, and you can switch it off at any time in the app's settings. We use no advertising identifiers, no cross-app trackers, and no data brokers.

iCloud sync (optional)

You may choose to turn on iCloud sync so your memories are available across your own devices. When you do, syncing happens through your personal Apple iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit framework. The data travels between your devices and your private iCloud. Ohene has no access to it and cannot read it. Sync is off by default and can be turned off at any time.

Subscriptions and payment

Ohene Pro is purchased through Apple's App Store using StoreKit. Payment is handled entirely by Apple. We never see or store your card details, and your subscription status is managed by Apple, not by us.

Who we are

Ohene is made by Talka Technologies. For the purposes of the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, and similar laws, Talka Technologies is the data controller for the limited processing described in this policy. You can reach us at admin@talkatechnologies.com.

Why we are allowed to process what little we do

Where European or UK data-protection law applies, our legal bases for processing are:

• Performance of a contract — for the weekly deeper reading, which we can only provide by processing the excerpts you send when you choose to subscribe to Ohene Pro.
• Consent — for the optional anonymous analytics, which you can withdraw at any time by switching it off in the app.
• Legitimate interests — in understanding, only in aggregate and anonymously, whether the app functions and is worth continuing, balanced against and never overriding your privacy.

Your rights

Because Ohene is local-first, you already hold and control nearly all of your data yourself. Depending on where you live — including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and California — you also have the right to:

• Access the personal data relating to you.
• Correct or update it.
• Erase it.
• Take it with you in a portable, machine-readable format.
• Restrict or object to certain processing.
• Withdraw any consent you have given.
• Not have your personal information sold or shared. We never sell or share it.

Most of these you can exercise yourself, instantly, inside the app: your memories live on your device, you can export them at any time in plain formats, and deleting a memory or the app removes that data. Because we hold no account and keep no server copy of your writing, there is usually nothing for us to retrieve or delete on your behalf. For anything you cannot do yourself, email admin@talkatechnologies.com and we will respond within the time the law requires. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority — in the EU, your national supervisory authority; in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

California residents: we do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not discriminate against you for exercising any of the rights above.

International data transfers

If you subscribe to Ohene Pro, the weekly reading sends a small set of excerpts to Anthropic, whose processing may take place in the United States. Where this involves transferring data out of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, that transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK equivalent). As above, the excerpts are processed transiently to compose your reading, are not retained beyond the request, and are never used to train any model.

How long we keep things

We keep almost nothing. Your memories are retained on your device for as long as you keep them, under your control. The weekly-reading excerpts are not retained once the reading is composed. Anonymous analytics events are kept only in aggregate and cannot be tied to you. We hold no account, so when you leave there is nothing of yours for us to retain — deleting the app removes your data, and if you used iCloud sync, removing the data and disabling sync clears it from your iCloud as well.

This website

This site sets no tracking cookies, runs no analytics scripts, and carries no advertising pixels. It makes no third-party requests at all: even the fonts are served from our own domain rather than a font CDN, so visiting this site sends nothing about you to anyone else and builds no profile of you.

Children

Ohene is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, which is higher in parts of the EU), and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Because the app holds no accounts and stores its data on the user's own device, it collects no personal information about anyone through our servers.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, note the change in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
